Ramon Ylanan, M.D.

Dr. Ylanan is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine in both family medicine and sports medicine. He's a graduate of the University of Virginia and received his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine. He completed his family residency at the University of Missouri and his sports medicine residency at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Ylanan has spent three and a half years at the University of South Carolina where he was an assistant professor.

Professional Experience

Dr. Ylanan joined AOS in May 2012 as a sports medicine physician. He's also a team physician for Arkansas Razorbacks, Shiloh Christian School and the HogEye Marathon. He provides comprehensive sports medicine care for athletes, and specializes in non-operative management of musculoskeletal injuries, concussions (ImPACT certified) and provides a range of soft tissue injections.

He has worked closely with more than a dozen teams since 2006 and generously donates his time to provide physicals for several area schools. Additionally, Dr. Ylanan has volunteered his time for multiple committees and even served as a monthly speaker on a call-in radio talk show on sports medicine. He never misses an occasion to lecture in Arkansas at events such as the Razor Fitness Winter Sports Medicine Symposium, Arkansas Athletic Trainers Association Annual Meeting, and Symposium and the University of Medical Sciences.


Dr. Ylanan oversees post-graduate level medical education and graduate medical education courses at the University of Arkansas for Medical Science (UAMS) and has years of experience at other institutions. 

Interesting Facts

  • Dr. Ylanan has been a sports medicine physician for five College World Series-bound teams. Two in South Carolina and three in Arkansas.
  • He also served as a team physician for the South Carolina Gamecocks. 
  • He produced two publications: Fracture, Tibial Plateau and Trochanteric Bursa Injections.
  • He is married to Melissa Ylanan, and has two children, AJ and Mia.
